1 –We will start the route in the town of Betorz. We park the vehicle at the entrance of the town and we will go to the top, where the church is. We will take a clue that in the beginning has a barrier.

2 – This track has no loss and will gradually ascend to the peak of Asba. Just before reaching the summit the track deviates a little and this is where we have to take a path that will take us to the top.

3 – We can descend on the opposite side to the Col de Paules or go back to the trail and continue on it until the pass. Now the road will veer to the left to avoid a tozal. Shortly after we will arrive at a crossroads and leaving the main track that goes to Sevil on our left, we will turn right. We will continue along the road until it begins to descend and there we will find a path that will take us all the way up to Peña de Surta.

4 – On the right we will see a path that goes down to Sarsa de Surta, saving a steep slope. We will go to the lower part of town, from where we will take a path. After a few meters we will turn left to take another, which, around a tozal, will leave us very close to the Vero River.

5 – At this point there is the Pedro Buil mill, and next to it, a bridge that we will cross to get onto the road

6 –Continuing along the road we will arrive first at Paules and then at Santa María de la Nuez.

7 – In Santa María de la Nuez, already in the last house, we will take a path to the left, passing under the Asba peak and surrounding it, it will take us to Betorz back. We just have to be attentive to a crossroad halfway and take the branch on the right towards Betorz (the other goes to Almazorre)

History and Culture

The peak of Asba is the most important in the eastern part of the Sierra de Guara (1431mts), from which the bravest tend to paraglide. We are in a rather unknown area but of great interest. Highlight the impressive views over the Balcés river canyon and the countless birds of prey that fly over these places. Betorz is a beautiful stone village, imitated by the landscape and where it seems that time has stopped. The church in honor of the Santas Nunilo and Alodia was built in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The urban complex of Sarsa de Surta is also worth mentioning. The Church of the Assumption, of the XVI century, with a Romanesque tower, a medieval part with castle included (in ruins) and the set of high ethnological interest of Pedro Buil, with mill, tile and an arnal, nowadays restored and dedicated to museum. On the Vero River, two medieval bridges facilitated the communications between Sarsa de Surta and the isolated cores of the other shore. Santa María de la Nuez is a sanctuary with interesting peculiarities, such as the annexes to the temple, where they ate and kept the goods on the day of the pilgrimage. It also has stables, cellar, cemetery and housing where the person in charge of the temple was staying
