All Saints’ Day is approaching, or Halloween as it is now called due to those trends imported from the United States, but here in the Sierra de Guara we like to celebrate our traditions, and this festival is associated with ghost stories told around the fireside.

The Night of the Skulls in Colungo
We begin on 31 October, the eve of All Saints’ Day; as night falls, the residents of Colungo celebrate the Night of the Skulls. The pumpkins, gathered from the vegetable gardens, are carved with eyes and a nose, and then a candle is placed inside. Then they take to the streets and go from house to house asking for a little money for the candle.
A celebration that is very enjoyable to enjoy with the family of the traditions of the villages of Somontano.
Halloween and legends in Huesca
And if you’d like to find out more about “Black Magic: The Crimes of Huesca”, take a tour through the streets of Huesca and its darkest history, guided by Oscar Sipán and violinist Daniela Nikolova; this tour will take place again on All Saints’ Day at 7 pm.
Radiquero’s Night of the Souls
On Friday 1 November, the O Coronazo Cultural Association is once again organising the Radiquero Night of Souls,, where you’re not allowed to come in fancy dress. Pumpkins, masks, jack-o’-lanterns, scary stories and lots of fun for the whole family.
Theatre, puppetry and culture in Abizanda
That day also marks the start of a varied programme at La Casa de los Títeres in Abizanda, running throughout the weekend and featuring plays, puppet shows, music and dance for both children and adults. You can find the full programme and buy tickets on their website.
The Hunt for the Treasure of the Clandestine Pre-Pyrenees
On Saturday morning, 2 November, in Barbastro, there will be a very exciting cultural tour: the Prepirineo Clandestino treasure hunt. What does it involve? It is a free guided tour in which, using clues and geocaching, you must find a hidden treasure. A different way to discover the rich cultural heritage of the Huesca Pre-Pyrenees.
You must, however, register at the Barbastro Tourist Office, as places are limited.
The Night of Terror in Colungo
In the afternoon we return to Colungo, where once again the Asociación el Portal D’Acunarda has organised the Night of Terror, a tour through the streets of the village featuring the dead rising from their graves, creatures from the underworld, witches who snatch you up, mysterious beings…
Don’t just take their word for it – go out and explore the streets for yourself, and you’ll see what it’s like to be scared.
Guided tours through the history of Huesca
On Sunday 3 November, we suggest a tour of Huesca to discover its history, a guided tour of the cemetery and an evening stroll along its city walls. For further information, please contact the Huesca Tourist Office.
Wine tourism and gastronomy over the long weekend
For food lovers, if you’re visiting the Sierra de Guara at this time of year, you’ll find that November is Wine Tourism Month, so over the All Saints’ Day weekend, special tours are scheduled at wineries such as Viñas del Vero or Bodega Sommos. And for the rest of the month, there are tastings, mini-pairings and other tours and activities at wineries or restaurants in the Somontano region.
