Circular Matidero - Bibán - Miz - Alastrué

Three are the uninhabited villages that this path passes through, since Matidero still has some of its houses standing, and its livestock grazes in the magnificent meadows that surround the village.

The path begins next to the first house you come to upon entering Matidero. You’ll need to decide which direction to take, as there are two options: one leads to
Alastrué (approx. 1 hr 45 mins) and the other to Bibán (approx. 1 hr 50 mins). To head towards Alastrué, from the starting point we must take the path that leads us to the vicinity of the other two renovated houses in Matidero. To the left of the stone house, the path turns, leaving the village via an old track flanked by ancient stone walls. From here, keep an eye out for the paint markings and stone cairns that will guide us along the route.

If we choose to start our walk heading towards Bibán, we should follow the forest track for a few metres until we reach the junction that leads into the old village centre of Matidero. The tower of the old church helps us find the path that runs alongside it and continues through the meadows and barns until it leaves the village.

On the way from Matidero to Bibán, we will have to cross the River Alcanadre, which, depending on the time of year, will have a higher or lower flow, making it easier or harder to cross. Once in Bibán, the path winds through the ruins of this beautiful, abandoned village, where we will come across the signposted S-12 trail linking the villages of Bibán, Bara and Binueste. We must keep an eye out for the signs leading to Miz. To visit the ruins of the village of Miz, we must stray a few metres from the path, as the trail
runs alongside it without entering and continues on towards Alastrué.

Throughout the route, you may come across various enclosures and fences for livestock; please ensure you close them so that the animals do not escape and cause any inconvenience to the farmers.
