The trail starts in Rodellar.
From the car park at the entrance, take the path towards the village centre; as you wander through the streets, you’ll reach the point where the trails leading to the Mascún and Gorgas Negras ravines begin.
The path descends to a small ravine before climbing back up to the houses on the other side (the Honguera neighbourhood).
A few metres further on is the sign marking the start of the S-3 trail, situated just before the start of the zigzag descent down to the Mascún riverbed.
Upon reaching the bed of the river one must must cross on several occasions going up the riverbed as far as the spring of the Mascún and the junction with the ravine of the Andrebot which opens up opens up to our left.
You then climb up this ravine until you reach the spectacular Losa Mora dolmen, before continuing along the path until you come to a track, which you follow eastwards until you reach the abandoned village of Otín.
Once you have explored the village’s two neighbourhoods – taking care not to enter the houses, as most are in danger of collapsing – you should follow the path southwards, where you can admire the magnificent trees, many of them centuries old, that make up the gall-oak forest near Otín.
The route continues with a winding descent along the Otín coastal path, so named because of its steep gradient. The whimsical shapes carved out by erosion in this section of the ravine are truly beautiful and invite you to look for figures and forms; the path passes through a spot known as the ‘Ciudadela’.
The steep descent ends at the Mascún riverbed, which you should follow downstream towards Rodellar, passing the spring once more; from there, return to the village along the same path you took at the start of the route.
