Dolmen of the Moor's Slab

Between the abandoned villages of Otín and Nasarre, near Rodellar, and heading towards the well-known Mascún ravine, we will come to see the huge prehistoric stone known as the Dolmen de la Losa Mora. Given its size and its isolated position in the landscape, it is easy to see why the local people would have conjured up tales to explain how such a massive rock could have come to be in that spot.
Hence the ancient legend that tells of a spinner passing through these lands with her spinning wheel and a large stone on her head, and that when she reached the spot where the dolmen stands, she laid the stone horizontally atop two others that were already embedded in the ground.
To understand this legend, one must know that the figure of a spinner is a kind of fairy in ancient mythologies, representing life and death; for whilst she spins with her spinning wheel she is alive, but when the thread runs out she dies, and in that case she leaves the stone she carries on her head to make her own grave.
