The Sierra de Sevil separates the riverbeds of the Vero and the Isuala. The upper part of the Isuala basin is known as Balcés and is divided into three sections: Upper Balcés, Oscuros del Balcés and Estrechos del Balcés. The route climbs parallel to the Estrechos on its orographic left, before descending in the final section of the Oscuros, crossing the riverbed and heading towards the Rodellar valley.
The vegetation we encounter will be very varied. At the start, we will walk through farmland, almond groves and olive groves. The rich sediments of these lowlands gradually give way to conglomerates, where holm oaks, oaks and strawberry trees mingle with aromatic plants and shrubs. After passing beneath some spectacular rock formations known as the Capilletas, we enter a stretch of mixed woodland; the oaks and holm oaks, once felled by charcoal burners, have given way to riverside vegetation. It is still possible to see the huge bare patches that indicate where a charcoal kiln once stood.
We cross the river and the woodland gives way to a vast pine forest that will accompany us all the way to Almunias de Rodellar.
As for the architectural heritage, we would highlight the 18th-century chapels of San Fabián and San Sebastián, and the Virgen de la Viña with its adjoining farmhouse. Both are sites of great devotion in the area.

Legend (The Grandmothers of Sevil)
The Grandmothers of Sevil were the last inhabitants of a small village situated in the vicinity of what is now the Mesón de Sevil.
After years of plague and death, they were the only survivors and heirs to all the surrounding lands. With no means of support, given their age, they decided to go down to the villages in the south, but none of them would take them in, fearing they were plague-stricken and worried of contagion. Until they reached Adahuesca, where they were taken in by a hospital. In gratitude, and following their deaths, all the lands of Sevil were to become part of the municipal area, provided that the inhabitants of this municipality fulfilled their three final wishes: that they be remembered every year, that charity be distributed, and that a festival be held for the children – rituals that are still observed in Adahuesca every year.
