The walk we propose forms part of a wider project aimed at linking several trails to create a GR route that runs the length of the mountain range.
In the small village of Las Almunias de Rodellar, we find a wide variety of traditional architecture, truncated cone-shaped chimneys, beautiful wooden doors with protective amulets, coats of arms, a traditional church and a flour mill that is no longer in use but retains all its charm.
The village of Pedruel, the only one on the right bank of the valley, embodies the essence of the area’s ancient villages. All new construction must be in keeping with the old features, thus preserving its beauty. Stone walls, large chimneys, cobbled streets and houses make up an almost medieval town centre.
Amidst limestone and conglomerate rock, we will descend parallel to the River Alcanadre, on its right bank, and at the Fuente de Tamara, where we will find some lovely springs, we will cross the river. Following its left bank, through scrubland and farmland, we will reach the Salto de Bierge.
Throughout the route, the views over the river are spectacular, as are the great vertical limestone cliffs in the Fornazos area and the unique “Huevo de Morrano”, where erosion of the conglomerate has sculpted this curious rock formation. It is easy to spot a wide variety of birds of prey in this area; bearded vultures, Egyptian vultures, griffon vultures and the occasional golden eagle will accompany us on the first stretch. Once we pass the Fuente de Tamara, sparrowhawks, goshawks, kites, Bonelli’s eagles and grey eagles will be on the lookout for small mammals, reptiles and small birds, either from their perches or from the air.

1 – Esta es la continuación de la ruta que nos lleva de Radiquero a Las Almunias de Rodellar. Partiendo pues desde las Almunias, tomaremos la pista asfaltada que conduce a Pedruel. El inicio de esta pista se coge al lado de la quesería y el albergue.
2 – Después de pasar por el vado inundable que cruza el río Alcanadre, subiremos hasta el pueblo ya sea por la senda que es más empinada, o siguiendo por la pista. (Desde Pedruel hasta Bierge esta ruta está señalizada)
3 – Desde la parte baja de la iglesia, donde está la puerta, sale un camino donde poco más adelante encontraremos una barrera. Tomaremos pues este camino que irá durante bastante tiempo paralelo al río hasta llegar a un cruce. Aquí tomaremos la bifurcación de la izquierda.
4 – Esta nos conducirá cerca de la ermita de San Martín del Alcanadre. Continuando por ella aparecerá otro cruce y volveremos a girar a la izquierda. Pasaremos por debajo del Huevo de Morrano (formación geológica) y de una pequeña cortada que quedara a nuestra derecha.
5 – La pista, un poco deteriorada, se convierte en senda. Estaremos atentos a un cruce, tomaremos la senda de la izquierda que desciende hacia la fuente y estrechos de Tamara.
6 – Cruzaremos el río por donde mejor podamos y aquí buscaremos un camino que asciende. Nada más cogerlo, tomaremos una senda que sale por la derecha, obviando el otro camino que va paralelo al río por su cauce.
7 – Desde lo alto de esta loma pasaremos cerca de la fuente y estrechos del Puntillo, pudiendo bajar a verlos. Continuando por la senda, ya en su parte final, llegaremos a una pista y de aquí al salto de Bierge.
