Tozal de Guara

The trail starts at the Tejería de San Cosme car park and soon passes by the ruins of the Fabana chapel. The journey continues through the lush forest of the ravine of Calcón until we reach a fork (about 2.6 km from the start) where you can a17> you can climb to Tozal de Guara via the stony slope (steep slope) or alternatively you can take the path on the left which climbs more gently through the narrow passes of Calcón, this being our route since the ascent is easier.

Continuing along the path through the Calcón gorges – which, depending on the time of year, may be flooded, meaning you’ll have to take your shoes off – you’ll come to a fork in the path, where you should follow the signs towards Collado de Petreñales. From the pass, the ascent remains well signposted all the way to the summit of Tozal de Guara, passing close to Fuente Chinebro on the way.

The descent is made along the same path as a7> ascent, or if there is a different vehicle available, one may choose from another of the many options, the most common being those that end in Used, Bentué from Nocito or Santa Cilia from Panzano.

Connection to other trails: From the summit of Tozal de Guara, you can follow the markings of the S-5 trail down to Tozal de Guara – Santa Cilia de Panzano, which descends towards the Vallemona pass and ends near the village of Santa Cilia de Panzano.
